The latest edition of British Bus Publishing's First Handbook has arrived ten months after last year's. It retails for the same price, has the same number of pages and one more photograph, all of which points to little change in the overall size of the fleet operated in the UK and Ireland. Like the new Stagecoach book (Reviews last month), it reveals the continuing low level of investment in new vehicles since the Covid-19 pandemic began two years ago. Besides Scottish government-funded BYD/Alexander Dennis battery-electric vehicles in course of delivery or on order for First Glasgow, the book reveals that 88 diesel buses - conceivably the last that First will buy - are also on order. Fifty-five are StreetDeck double-deckers for Bradford and Weston-super-Mare, while 33 StreetLite Max single-deckers are the first the group has bought for six years. The book follows the usual format of listings by fleetnumber, depot and registration plate, complete in this case with 46 quality colour pictures. |
