As Christopher Carter continues on his £2 rides from Exeter towards Norwich (p56), this is what he would have found in Norwich had he travelled there in July 1986, three months before deregulation. Two years earlier as part of the progressive division of its southern companies into smaller units, the National Bus Company (NBC) broke Eastern Counties in three, with new companies Cambus and Ambassador taking over, respectively, the western operations in Cambridgeshire and the coaches. The original company was left with Norfolk and Suffolk bus routes. Eastern Counties' management bought the business in February 1987 for £4.5million, the tenth highest price paid for an individual NBC subsidiary. |
