Three preservation bodies are teaming up to organise a running day in Perth on Sunday August 28 to commemorate the Scottish Bus Group's division ofW Alexander & Sons into three new companies 61 years ago in May 1961. The Scottish Vintage Bus Museum, Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust and Angus Transport Group will provide a selection of representative vehicles to run over routes operated until 1961 by Alexander's Southern, Northern and Fife areas and from then on by the Alexander (Midland), Alexander (Northern) and Alexander (Fife) companies that replaced them. Perth was one of the major centres where buses from all three fleets met in substantial numbers. Midland, which retained the old company's blue and cream livery, had a depot in the city and operated into it from farther afield. The Northern company's yellow buses ran in from the north-east and the Fife company's red ones from the south-east. |
