Many operators have reduced frequencies again, citing an increase in the level of driver shortages. Arriva North East is cutting service levels on three routes in County Durham (22, 23 and 49/49A), telling customers: "We know reducing timetables is not a perfect solution, nor do we consider it a permanent one, however the changes we are introducing are designed to ensure critical routes continue to be served, reliably." It added: "These changes should mean we expect to have a suitable level of available drivers to operate the published timetable." Blackpool Transport has reduced its Blackpool-Fleetwood bus route 1 from half-hourly to hourly. In previous summers, it has run at least every 20 minutes. The route largely parallels the operator's tramway, which only accepts locally-issued concessionary passes, so the bus derives much of its custom from visitors who cannot travel for free on the tramway. |
