I was interested in the report on the Preservation Update pages (Buses July) about the Leyland Tiger JA 5515 (ex North Western), because the immediately preceding vehicle JA 5514 found its way into the fleet of Gilbert's Coaches of Tunbridge Wells until the middle of the 1960s. It had a Harrington body that seemed to have quite an antiquated appearance even though one was familiar with contemporary Harrington bodies in the Maidstone & District fleet. Incidentally, the note on Alan Millar's page about Barming is actually correct. Banning was for many years the home of a large mental hospital (later known as Oakwood), hence people were said to be barmy if it was thought that they ought to have been in Barming! |
