The move to electric vehicles - we report in Global News this month that one of the global giants, Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler has set a date when it expects to build its last diesel bus - is forcing the pace at which today's engineers and technicians need to adapt to the huge pace of change. The old certainties associated with decades of development of internal combustion engines are coming to an end. An end that may well arrive sooner than many in the industry would like. This month we talk to Wrightbus about the challenges that operators must meet in maintaining and ensuring the safe operation of a new generation of zero-emission vehicles. The UK's second biggest bus builder is pushing two parallel solutions: battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cells, and has wise words to say about how best to look after those vehicles. |
