摘要: In 2007, Alaska published the Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP), a statewide, comprehensive safety plan that provided a coordinated framework for reducing fatalities and serious injuries on all public roads. Consultation with Federal, state, local, and private sector safety stakeholders identified three emphasis areas for that plan. Since 2007 the SHSP has helped Alaska achieve significant improvements in traffic safety with the number of traffic fatalities and fatal crashes dropping to the lowest level in 30 years. To keep moving forward, the State conducted an update of the plan renaming it the Strategic Traffic Safety Plan (STSP) to acknowledge people in Alaska who use more than highways to travel. Alaska joined several other states and national organizations by adopting a Toward Zero Deaths goal and an interim goal to reduce motor vehicle-related fatalities and serious injuries by one-half by 2030 (an average annual decrease of three percent). Each emphasis area adopted measurable fatality and serious injury objectives to reflect this interim goal.
