In a move to speed up boarding and reduce litter on buses, all major operators have stopped issuing paper tickets for concessionary travel. First, McGill's, Stagecoach, West Coast Motors and JMB Travel went paperless from February 20, bringing them into line with the established practice at Lothian Buses. New software allows operators to log each journey digitally and has been agreed and endorsed by Transport Scotland. Passengers are still required to inform the driver of their destination when they board to allow accurate recording of this information. As reported on p28 last month, the newly announced extension of the CAVForth autonomous bus project from Ferrytoll park-&-ride to Dunfermline city centre is being part-funded with a £10.4million share of £81 million being awarded through the Connected & Automated Mobility programme from UK government's Centre for Connected & Autonomous Vehicles. |
