The combination of new car finance and a rapidly expanding choice of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) is helping more consumers switch to zero emissions. Next to charging anxiety, the price of entry to BEVs is usually held up as another stumbling block to their mass adoption. One commentator in the charging industry even told AM recently that they believed the rate of BEV adoption is still behind where it should be due to the affordability of vehicles. They were hoping to see further grant or VAT reduction support in the Budget. However, some of the most popular BEVs currently available are priced below £400 a month on the latest personal contract purchase (PCP) offers up until the end of March. While the average monthly payment for a BEV is, admittedly, on the high side at £536 a month, this figure is skewed by the more premium vehicles in this sector. The top 10 models by price include models like the MG4, Renault Zoe, Nissan Leaf and Peugeot e-208, all for less than £400 a month. |
