One of Acrow's originally temporary modular steel bridges in Canada has recently opened to traffic as a permanent river crossing in another location. It is now carrying traffic over Kettle Creek in the Township of Southwold in the province of Ontario. In 2018, after heavy rains and flooding, the Imperial Road Bridge in Port Bruce collapsed under the weight of a loaded dump truck. The crossing was the only direct route between the north and south sides of Port Bruce. Acrow was awarded the contract to design and supply a temporary modular steel structure to provide a detour downstream of the collapsed bridge. Assembled and installed in six weeks, the single-lane bridge was 54.8m long and 5.5m wide, with an epoxy aggregate deck and a CL-625 Ontario truck load rating. It was purchased by Elgin County, which anticipated a need for its reuse at a later date. |
