The worldwide switch to EVs continues as more and more customers begin to appreciate the benefits of clean transport. Many city bus fleets are now using electric vehicles, placing charging facilities along routes to ensure the vehicles operate efficiently. High fuel costs in Europe and China have been factors that have helped encourage vehicle buyers to consider EVs, while the availability of subsidies from governments have also helped this change. The US has been slower to switch to EVs, partly as fuel costs are low and partly as Americans tend to drive further and there are concerns over the range that batteries will allow. In China there has been a widespread recognition of the advantages to be gained in making the change from a reliance on vehicles driven by internal combustion (IC) engines to those using electric power. Many of China's cities suffer from very poor air quality and the switch to EVs will make a welcome change to residents by cutting exhaust pollution. The savings in terms of improved public health and better working and living conditions will be enormous. |
