Necos, a contractor from the Novara area, is working in Genoa on an alternative road network located on the left bank of the Polcevera River. The project is to divert traffic to the San Giorgio Bridge - formerly the Morandi bridge and for this a 700m- long road has been commissioned. For work to progress, it is necessary to relocate the railway serving the port, taking into consideration the hydraulic aspects for the safety of the areas at the river's mouth. A Simex TFV 600 vertical drum cutter was selected for cropping the reinforced concrete piles that make up the skeleton of the entire infrastructure. Normally, a hydraulic hammer or pneumatic pilebreaker is used for crushing a few piles. However, for this project, neither of the two methods could be used as the piles are too close to each other for bulky machinery such as a pilebreaker to operate. Also, the hammer would not guarantee either the productivity needed to crop more than 600 piles or the removal and pulverisation of resulting concrete debris. For these reasons the Simex TFV vertical drum cutter is being used. |
