The purpose of this Paper is to suggest design and construction methodology using cement stabilization for asphalt pavement crust optimization. The paper addresses pavement design steps, construction methodology, cost optimization achieved, limitations, recommendations and design results verification by conducting pilot project. Road design is the most important feature of any infrastructure project and low-cost sustainable pavement can significantly reduce the cost of the project. New pavement design methods, usage of innovative construction material, reduction of carbon footprints will accelerate development of road network. Amongst various new initiatives, soil stabilization leads to improvement in shear strength parameters and bearing capacity of soil in road construction. The study is aimed to improve engineering performance of pavement by using cement treated base and subbase technique. Pavement design in this study is performed using IITPAVE software with stabilizer as cement and lime. The study area is selected by RBML Petro retail Engineering team at its new petrol station located in Vidisha - Madhya Pradesh, to verify improvement in soil and pavement design parameter useful for pavement cost optimization. Soaked CBR, UCS, swelling pressure and Atterberg's limit tests are performed. Soaked CBR is improved to 40% from 6%, swelling pressure reduced to 0.1 kg/cm2 from 0.75 kg/cm2, which shows significant improvement in engineering properties of soil. |
