摘要: Buses account for the most common public transportation in Indian cities. However, commuters, face difficulties in accessing public transportation. Accessibility is a crucial factor for assess to opportunities like employment, education, health care. It becomes more important in smaller cities with lower car ownership rates and low-income groups. Hence, there is a need to assess present capacity and improve it. This study is about determining the accessibility levels of public transportation in Jammu city using the Public Transport Accessibility Level (PTAL) approach. It is an origin-based and uses Geographic Information System (GIS) for mapping the results. This paper can be useful to policymakers as it provides a methodology for mapping public transport accessibility levels in a city. Also, significance of this methodology has been discussed in determination of vehicle permits, determining the optimum frequency of public transport, location of bus stops, parking lots etc. by taking few examples form study area. All these planning will ensure inclusive growth and development of Jammu city which is to become a smart city under centrally sponsored smart city mission.
