| 摘要： | Planning of large transport infrastructure in congested urban area is always a challenging task. Kona expressway is a very important corridor which connects city of Kolkata with other parts of India through NH-6 and NH-2. This road is a story of never-ending traffic jam and chaos throughout the day due to inadequate capacity, inter-mingling of fast moving National Highway traffic and slow-moving local traffic. Further development programme of Indian Railway and Transport Department near Kona Expressway shall certainly worsen the situation in near future. An elevated corridor has been planned in search of long term improvement of traffic dispersal system with seamless transfer of vehicles and pedestrian to Santragachi railway station. Present paper demonstrates a methodology which was followed to plan the 6.2 km long six-lane elevated corridor, interchange with other modes of transport in a very land constrained urban scenario of developing countries. Steps followed for segment wise traffic analysis for realistic assessment of potential traffic for elevated corridor are explained in this Paper. Critical issues involved in planning of elevated corridor and proposals for providing effective solutions of the same have also been discussed. |
