摘要: Mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls are geotechnical composite systems composed of alternating layers of soil and tensile reinforcing elements. These walls are self-supporting gravity structures due to the interaction between the soil and reinforcement. MSE walls have become an attractive alternative to conventional reinforced concrete retaining walls during the past 30 years. Rapid acceptance of MSE wall systems can be attributed to their relative low cost, aesthetics, good performance and reliability, relatively simple construction, and ability to use in a wide variety of site conditions. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has successfully used MSE structures as elements of approach embankments and bridge abutments and for general earth retention. Soil reinforcement systems consist of three components: reinforcement, facing elements, and backfill material.
