This study investigated the effect of moisture and amount of baghouse fines on AC mixes. Two types of baghouse fines, each with a different gradation, were used in varying concentrations to prepare laboratory samples. The binder used was PG64-22 and the anti-strip additive used was LOF 6500. TSR (AASHTO T283) test results showed a reduction in retained strength for specimens without additive as compared to the specimens containing additive showing the effectiveness of the additive in preventing the moisture damage. Mixes with highest amount of baghouse fines showed resistance to moisture damage in presence of the anti-strip additive. However, absence of additive reduced the strength ratio considerably to the point that these mixes would be unacceptable under current NCDOT criterion. |
