The report Effects of out of town shops (STACTH Rapport 1994:1) stated that town the customers travelling by car increased 3-13 times as a consequence of establishing new shops out of. The aim of this report is to compare the environmental consequences of the delivery of every day goods to out of town shops with shops located within the cities. The question to be answered is whether the delivery of every day goods from an environmental point of view is carried out more efficiently to out of city shops compared to shops located in the city. By measuring the number of deliveries and the volume of deliveries and calculate differences in the fuel consumption and in the emissions of HC, CO, CO2, NO(X), environmental impact the question is answered. The conclusion of the analyses is that there is nothing indicating that the delivery is carried out more efficiently to out of town shops compared to shops in the city. The efficiency of the delivery is a function of the volume delivered at each stop and the distance of the delivery route. The size of the shops decides the delivered volume. The route distance is a consequence of the number of shop each deliverer has to serve and the location of these shops. |
