YMCA-YWCA hire Angsholmen, an island in the archipelago of Stockholm, for different kind of youth camps in a wonderful environment. The treatment latrine waste of today poses a large economic and nutrient recycling problem. Latrine is collected in buckets which are picked up by boats and transported away from the island. This study presents a proposal for a new treatment system of the latrine on the island. Local conditions and an introductory pilot study were the main factors when determining the substrate mixture for the compost experiment. Ordered for a month on Angsholmen. The pilot study was done on five different substrate mixtures in DEWAR-vessels. Four of the vessels had a capacity of one litre and one a capacity of two litres. The five mixtures were food waste, feces, food waste and feces, feces and urine, feces and food waste and urine. In all mixtures were old compost used as amendment. |
