Electric and hybrid electric aircraft require highperformance and reliable electric motor drivetrains. Thesedrivetrains, consisting of a motor, an inverter, a gearbox, and athermal management system, are highly coupled systems wherethe design of individual components in the drivetrain willsignificantly affect the sizing and performance of the othercomponents in the system. In this paper, a preliminary co-optimization tool for electric motor drivetrains for Urban AirMobility vehicles is presented. An example study with the tool iscompleted for NASA’s RVLT quadrotor concept vehicle. |
