The objectives of this research are to investigate the state-of-the-practice concerning the use of falling-weight deflectometer (FWD) data in network-level pavement management by other state departments of transportation, review the current practices used by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), and recommend specific methods of FWD analysis that best reflect actual pavement conditions. A literature review and a telephone questionnaire survey will be performed, and FWD data collected from Legacy Highway and Long-Term Pavement Performance Program site 49-1001 will be analyzed using the Noureldin, Hoffman, Jameson, European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST), Rohde, and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials models, as well as with multiple layer linear elastic analysis (MLLEA). Superiority of the methods analyzed will be concluded and a superior method will be recommended for the UDOT network. Application of temperature corrections to FWD deflections will also be evaluated for structural pavement monitoring. |
