The World SID 50th percentile male is being increasingly implemented in Side Impact Crash test protocols. The reason behind this is that its enhanced bio-fidelity replicates a human body in a side impact crash test scenario more closely than any other An- thropomorphic Test Devices(ATDs). The dummy supplier has recently released a new shoulder clevis and arm for this dummy. These modifications have been introduced to avoid several known problems from the previous version of World SID 50th's shoulder clevis. These problems were mainly related to arm positioning difficulties and excessive ease of movement due to suit tension. However, as the design has been changed, the behaviour of the dummy, especially its arm kinematics may have also changed. Since the new World SID shoulder clevis design has been released, many OEM's have performed side sled and crash tests at IDIA- DA using these new parts. Data coming from these tests has led to believe that there could be a potential difference in the results depen- ding on the shoulder and arm used for testing. As a consequence, IDIADA has started a research project that aims to define the different behaviours of these parts through exhaus- tive testing and analysis. This paper includes results from a number of pendulum tests performed at IDIADA using the same dummy but changing the shoulder clevis and arm. This data shows that differences were found while evaluating the reproducibility of these results, nevertheless, the au- thors are aware that these results might be unrepresentative due to test set up variability. Because of this further testing will be conducted which will include Static Deployment and Side Sled testing to robustly prove the behaviour and differences of clevis and arm. |
