Bridge Design System Analysis and Modernization
项目名称: Bridge Design System Analysis and Modernization
摘要: The objectives for this project include:(1) documenting the existing program architecture, process flow and functionality of the Bridge Design System (BDS); (2) identifying design calculations in the BDS and identify the source of these calculations by referencing current design codes or institutional assumptions; (3) quantifying the risk created by the programming language of the BDS and its Graphical User Interface (GUI) related to existing and future compatibility with modern desktop computing hardware and software. Develop options to mitigate this risk; (4) retaining and protect the current institutional investment that has been dedicated to the BDS and the business processes that have developed within MDOT's Bridge Design Units; (5) developing a plan for future maintenance of the BDS software that includes contingencies for adapting to operating system, software and staffing changes; (6) enhancing functionality of the BDS to develop additional features or routines that will create operational efficiencies when creating bridge designs; (7) updating user's documentation to reflect the current state of the BDS software; and (8) developing training resources that can be used to support and train MDOT bridge designers on the specific newly added functions and calculations of the BDS. Use these resources to train existing MDOT staff. The overall goal of this project is to support the viability of MDOT's BDS as a long-term tool by documenting the existing architecture and operation of the system, and developing a plan for future compatibility and functionality. This work will act as a starting point for MDOT to prioritize enhancements to the BDS that improve the operational efficiency of the Bridge Design Units. Documentation and training material developed from this project will allow the bridge design process to be transparent which will assist in training new staff and identifying technical areas that may require updates to keep pace with future design procedures. The project will also develop a long-term plan that can be used as a roadmap to reduce risk to the program and schedule future enhancements and necessary maintenance.
