Social Ties and Transportation: A Community-level basis for Reducing Vehicle Tailpipe Emissions |
摘要: |
Researchers propose a national study based on previously existing data sets: the 2010 General Social Survey, the 2009 Civic Engagement Supplement of the Current Population Survey, and the 2009 National Household Transportation Survey. The objective of this study is to capture the relational and community social capital context of informed decision-making with regard to low emissions alternatives to single occupancy vehicle use. Work on this project is motivated by a central question: Do people's social connections to others, at home, at the workplace and in their local community affect their disposition towards reducing transportation emissions? This work builds on previous University Transportation Center (UTC) funded research that included a three-state survey, media analysis and a series of focus groups all centered on understanding connections between attitudes and behavior related to individual transportation choices and vehicle tailpipe emissions. |
