Assessment of Ozone Impacts of EV Adoption in Texas
项目名称: Assessment of Ozone Impacts of EV Adoption in Texas
摘要: Plug-in Electric vehicles (PEVs) are expected to overtake conventional vehicles by mid-2030s. PEVs have considerably lower tailpipe pollutant emissions which react with each other and form ground-level ozone, a criteria pollutant known to be harmful to human health and the environment. However, when the overall wheel-to-well emissions are considered, characterizing the net impact of PEVs on ozone is a complex task that involves capturing the influence of factors such as PEV technology, energy sources of electricity generation, and location and time of electricity generation. The researcher team will use the most recent available data and methods to develop forecasts of changes in ground-level-ozone as a result of PEV activities in three non-attainment areas of Texas (Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, and San Antonio) for multiple scenarios representing different plausible changes in key influence factors by years 2023 and 2028. The researcher team will develop a series of scenarios for PEV activity levels, energy sources, and charging profiles. The researcher team will then estimate the changes in emissions from PEVs and power generation by location and time. The researcher team will use the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Community Multi-scale Air Quality Model (CMAQ) photochemical modeling along with Texas-specific emission inputs prepared and used by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to estimate hourly levels of ground-level ozone in the study areas.
