| 摘要： | The Maritime Administration (MARAD) continues to investigate alternative fuels, particularly as they relate to use for marine highways and the greening of agency fleets. In FY10, the Maritime Administration funded an alternative fuel feasibility study for near shore vessels, including Agency vessels and is working to establish the foundation for conducting a pilot/demonstration project. In furthering that effort, funding is needed to continue in-situ testing of promising alternative fuels on Agency and potentially commercial vessels as well as shore-based equipment. Supports the MAR-410 Strategic Plan by continuing to promote environmental sustainability and reduce emissions and the dependence on traditional energy sources. This project would allow MARAD to engage more directly into the alternative fuels arena. New biodiesel shows promise for marine application as it proportedly has fewer drawbacks than first generation biodiesel. Testing and demonstrating the new fuel would allow MARAD to test these claims and to ascertain the operational and emissions profiles. DOT and USACE have been working with MARAD on alternative fuels efforts. |
