摘要: Knowledge of the thickness of the layers within a pavement is important when assessing the strength of the pavement. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) surveys are commonly used to measure these thicknesses but this technique requires that reference thicknesses are obtained from the pavement being surveyed. Obtaining this reference data has traditionally been a slow process because it requires removing large cores from the pavement and then reinstating the hole made. In this project a novel technique for measuring the thickness of the construction layers within a pavement is investigated. A technique is shown that is based on creating a small hole and using a borescope to obtain images from the exposed wall of the hole. Layer boundaries can be observed in the images. The theory behind the calculation of layer thickness using these images is explored and recommendations made for further work to develop the technique.
