Guidance for State DOTs on Truck Rest and Service Areas for Critical Supply Chain Delivery
项目名称: Guidance for State DOTs on Truck Rest and Service Areas for Critical Supply Chain Delivery
摘要: Trucker drivers are responsible for the delivery of roughly 75% of consumer goods. They require commercial driver's licensure; must ensure that they are drug free; and remain abreast of applicable roadway permits and truck load and oversize restrictions to ensure safe and timely goods delivery. The COVID-19 pandemic led to significant changes in the movement of people and goods and disruption to all transportation modes increasing challenges for truckers. During the pandemic, several occupations have been categorized as front line or essential workers, this includes truck drivers responsible for the delivery of critically needed supplies such as personal protective equipment, ventilators, and meeting dynamic supply chain needs. It has also revealed opportunities to improve the linkage to critical transportation modes and continued access to goods and services during the pandemic. Research is needed to identify the needs of truck drivers to ensure their safety during COVID-19. This research aims to provide a guide for state transportation agencies that will help them maintain rest and service areas, keeping them open, clean, and virus-free for truckers who are delivering critical goods such as ventilators and personal protective equipment, and other consumer goods to meet the shifting needs of consumers.
