A UAS Network for Transportation Emergency Response |
摘要: |
Recent research has shown that Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) can be helpful in emergency incident response, particularly when the incident scenes are too dangerous for first responders to get close to (e.g. fire and HAZMAT spills). Recognizing this potential use for UAS (drones), Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has funded a prior study to develop a conceptual UAS emergency response network for both highway incidents and natural disasters. However, a practical understanding of using UAS in different types of emergency situations is still needed. The intent of this project is to evaluate the types of incidents that are most suitable for using UAS; the key operational parameters for UAS operating in emergency incident response; and how to integrate UAS into the MassDOT emergency management team. |
