The project involves a statewide survey of aging road users (50 years and older), aimed at collecting data that can inform the Safe Mobility for Life Coalition's (SMFLC's) focus and outreach. The survey, which will include a web-based and pen-and-paper version, will be a follow-up and extension of a similar survey, conducted in 2017, that yielded over 3000 respondents. Summaries of the results of this baseline survey were used to promote the goals of the SMFLC through outreach and education. As examples, results indicating that over three-quarters of respondents had not planned for the day they could no longer drive safely and two-thirds feared they’d become isolated if they stopped driving were used to create outreach and marketing materials in community events and statewide campaigns (e.g., Older Driver Safety Awareness Week), as well as to create display materials used at educational events around the state. |
