This paper studies the effect of addition of fibers in improving the performance of bituminous mixes. This also compares the effectiveness of natural fiber in improving the properties with respect to synthetic fibers. In this study two types of fibers are used; Polypropylene fibers and Coir fibers. The length and percentage of fibers are varied to determine its effect in reinforcing the mix. Optimum bitumen content and Marshall Stability values are determined. Static creep test is then done on the samples for determining the creep stability. From the tests, it was found that the length and percentage of fibers affect the reinforcing properties of the mix. Also the results of Marshall Test and Creep Test show similar trends and the properties of mixes reinforced with polypropylene and coir fibers showed comparable results. |
