| 摘要： | Guide banks are meant to confine and guide the river flow through the bridge without causing excessive afflux and damage to the approach embankments with the objective of reducing overall cost of the bridge and approach embankments. They help ensuring bridge safety and considerable reduction of scour in abutments. The current design practice (IRC-89:1997) has several draw backs. The paper intends to improve the current design practice introducing design consideration for deciding bridge length which in turn determine length of guide bank. Lagasse's elliptical guide bank and length of guide bank as per Lagasse's curves have been recommended. An illustrative example is worked out at the end. |
