摘要: This is the statement of John H. Anderson, Jr., Director, Transportation Issues, Resources, Community, and Economic Development Division, General Accounting Office, before the Subcommittee on Transportation, Committee on Appropriations, House of Representatives, on issues facing the Department of Transportation in Fiscal Year 1998 and beyond. The testimony focuses on safety and security issues in aviation and surface transportation systems; management issues in aviation, highway, and transit programs, including the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Program; and other major issues, including the long-term financing of the Federal Aviation Administration, the continuing financial problems of Amtrak, and the Coast Guard's ability to measure its effectiveness in drug interdiction.
