THE AIM OF THE RESEARCH IS TO VERIFY EXPERIMENTALLY THE BEHAVIOUR OF A SLURRY TRENCH WALL WHICH IS ANCHORED AT SEVERAL LEVELS AND IS USED AS A TEMPORARY RETAINING WALL FOR A LARGE-SCALE EXCAVATION (100M 100M). MEASUREMENTS WERE TAKEN OF ACTIVE EARTH PRESSURE AND ZONE WATER PRESSURE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE WALL, OF STRESSES IN THE REINFORCED CONCRETE AT THE MAIN LEVELS (ANCHORAGE POINTS AND HALF-WAY POINTS), AND OF THE DISPLACEMENTS OF THE WALL AS A FUNCTION OF THE DIFFERENT STAGES OF CONSTRUCTION. THIS RESEARCH SHOWED THE NECESSITY OF DESIGNING THESE WALLS WITH THE HELP OF TRAPEZOIDAL PRESSURE CHARTS AND CALCULATING THE PASSIVE EARTH PRESSURE PRODUCED BY TIE RODS, WHICH LEADS TO A MARKED REDUCTION IN STRESSES IN THE WALL COMPARED TO THE VALUES OBTAINED WITH CONVENTIONAL CALCULATIONS. IT ALSO CONFIRMS THE ADVANTAGE OF USING CALCULATION METHODS BASED ON ELASTIC THEORIES. |
