摘要: The paper presents the findings of a focus group study of the advanced traveler information system. Six focus group meetings were held in September 1998 in the San Francisco Bay Area. Four traveler information technologies, the service via land-line, Internet, cellular phone, and personal digital assistance, were introduced to obtain participants' reaction. A majority of the participants had a favorable reaction to these technologies and saw the value of the traveler information service. Despite the fact that most participants were concerned about the cost of new information products or services, their responses to the personalized service were generally positive. The focus group participants recognized the benefits of obtaining traveler information, including stress reduction and knowing the travel conditions of their planned route. Desired additional information include estimated travel time, expected incident clearance time, and up-tothe- minute information on traffic conditions. The willingness to use traveler information service via various advanced traveler information technologies was relative to the availability of the hardware.
