摘要: The National Aviation and Transportation Center (NAT Center) has established the first Intelligent Transportation Simulation System (ITSS) in the United States. This system identifies and contributes to the solution of intelligent transportation problems using computer-based simulation that includes all three spatial dimensions: aerial, surface and subsurface. The system utilizes the five human senses and all modes of transportation related to air, land and sea. The first phase of this program is supported by a $3.1 million United States Department of Transportation grant. This funding was used to recently establish an advanced technology simulation laboratory. The simulation laboratory is used for strategic planning and problem solving, environmental issues, route and system planning, public participation and conflict resolution, emergency preparedness and risk assessment, human factor issues, logistics and scheduling, economic development as well as financial feasibility and business planning. This technology helps define the systems that enable transportation specialists to better understand the movement of people and goods in a safe and efficient manner using risk-free and less environmentally intrusive training techniques. The simulation system is capable of evaluating problems and providing training at the micro and macro levels. Micro activities include operator-level training, planning and gaming; macro activities range from regional planning to project design and evaluation. Some of the other activities involve personnel and equipment resource management and electronic multimedia simulations applied to large-scale transportation projects and issues using electronic rehearsal exercises. Key to the use of this simulation based facility is the enhancement of transportation that has economic development benefits.
