More operators are trying to encourage passengers back with cheaper fares. The UK's largest single operator, National Express West Midlands, cut almost all day and period tickets, typically by 15-20%, on 'Freedom Day', July 19. It has also abandoned peak versions of its day ticket, instead offering one price all day long. Managing director David Bradford said: 'Half of bus customers will pay less than they do now - nobody will pay more,' highlighting that the weekly ticket was now the same price as it was in 2012. |
