摘要: Walsall Corporation Leyland Royal Tiger 808 (PDH 808), newly restored to working order at the Transport Museum Wythall, was among the participants in the second South Midlands Bus & Coach Road Run on May 23. One of five Park Royal-bodied Royal Tigers new to Walsall in May 1953, the undertaking's first underfloor-engined single-deckers, 808 has been part of the Wythall collection since 1983 and has been on static display since it was fitted with a set of bus seats in 2007 and repainted in Walsall livery. All five were ordered in place of front-engined Tiger PS2 halfcab single-deckers and were delivered as 42-seat buses. This one was reconfigured with 40 coach seats in 1959 for evening tours run then to Cannock Chase, Lichfield and Sutton Coldfield and ran latterly on Friday services to the market at Lichfield. It passed into West Midlands PTE ownership in October 1969. Upon withdrawal in 1973, it was sold to Chase Terrace Comprehensive School and moved on to the Ribble Enthusiasts Preservation Group which intended to break it up for spares but instead restored it.
