Star attraction launched at the Ribble Vehicle Preservation Trust's (RVPT) members' day at Freckleton on April 2 was newly restored Ribble 377 (ERN 700), an all-Leyland Royal Tiger PSU1/13 service bus. It was one of 110 of these 44-seaters purchased soon after 120 centre-entrance all-Leyland Royal Tiger coaches arrived in 1951. It started life at Carlisle depot in October 1952 and ended up at Skerton depot in Lancaster in 1965. It moved around the company several times in between, with five years at Wigan its longest stay at any depot. Upon withdrawal, it was rebuilt in Ribble's Frenchwood Works to meet the needs of the Lake District Cheshire Care Home near Windermere. Most of the seats were removed to provide wheelchair space and it was equipped with a tail lift. Ribble continued to maintain it and it was garaged under cover. |
