THE CAUSES OF THE FAILURE BY CORROSION OF PRESTRESSING STEELS IN CONCRETE ARE ANODIC AND, PROBABLY MORE FREQUENTLY, CATHODIC MECHANISMS. IT MUST BE MADE CERTAIN THAT ADMIXTURES USED IN PRESTRESSED CONCRETE CONTAIN NO SUBSTANCES WHICH WOULD ENCOURAGE THIS TYPE OF CORROSION. THE OBJECT OF THE RESEARCH IS TO DEVELOP A SUITABLE PROCEDURE FOR DETECTING POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS ELEMENTS SPECIFIC TO PRESTRESSING STEELS. AS WELL AS SUBSTANCES WHICH ARE KNOWN TO BE DANGEROUS, CONCRETE PLASTICIZERS AND RETARDERS WHICH HAVE BEEN USED FOR A LONG TIME IN REINFORCED CONCRETE AND ARE ALSO SOMETIMES USED IN PRESTRESSED CONCRETE ARE TO BE SUBJECTED TO ELECTRO-CHEMICAL TESTS IN A TEST APPARATUS. |
