THE EFFICACY OF VERTICAL CAPILLARY SCREENS AS A MEANS OF PROTECTING THE SUBGRADE AGAINST EXCESS MOISTURE CONTENT BY THE EDGE EFFECT WAS SHOWN BY TAKING MEASUREMENTS OF PORE WATER PRESSURE AND MOISTURE CONTENT ON A TWO-DIMENSIONAL LABORATORY MODEL AND ON 2 EXPERIMENTAL SECTIONS. THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THE METHOD WERE DEMONSTRATED. SELECTION CRITERIA FOR MATERIALS TO BE USED IN SCREENS WERE ESTABLISHED. IT IS ENVISAGED TO REACH THE COMMERCIAL STAGE OF THE PROJECT, INCLUDING THE DRAFTING OF SPECIFICATIONS BASED ON LARGE-SCALE ACHIEVEMENTS. THE FINAL AIM IS TO PRECISELY DETERMINE THE FIELDS OF APPLICATION AND TECHNIQUES. |
