摘要: PREVIOUS RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT, GIVEN EQUIVALENT AXLE LOADS, THE POSITION OF THE TYRES AND TYRE AIR PRESSURE HAVE A MARKED EFFECT ON THE LIFE OF A ROAD. TAKING ACCOUNT OF THE VARIOUS WHEEL LOADS AND THE DYNAMIC COMPONENTS WHICH DEPEND ON SPEED, ROAD CONDITION AND THE STRUCTURAL DESIGN OF THE AXLE SUSPENSION AND DAMPING, A CRITERION FOR EVALUATING VARIOUS ROAD COMBINATIONS IS TO BE WORKED OUT. BITUMINOUS SURFACINGS STANDARDISED IN SPECIFICATIONS RSTO 75 WILL BE USED AS THE BASIS FOR THE STUDY. HORIZONTAL LOADS WHICH HAVE AN EFFECT ON GRADIENTS, DEPENDING ON ENGINE OUTPUT AND WEIGHT OF THE ROAD TRAIN, ARE ALSO TO BE CONSIDERED.
