THE OBJECT OF THE RESEARCH IS TO EXAMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF AN AUTOMATIC EVALUATION OF TRAFFIC FLOW BASED ON CHARACTERISTICS WHICH CAN BE DETERMINED ON LINE. THE AIM IS TO DESIGN ONE OR SEVERAL METHODS OF EVALUATION SO THAT THEY CAN BE USED AS MODULES ON THE PROCESS COMPUTERS USED FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONTROL AND THUS CAN BE DRAWN ON FOR COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF CONTROL METHODS. FIRST IT IS NECESSARY TO DEFINE THE CHARACTERISTIC VALUES OF TRAFFIC FLOW WHICH ALLOW A COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF CONTROL MEASURES; MODEL RELATIONS THEN HAVE TO BE DERIVED BETWEEN THESE VALUES AND THOSE DATA WHICH CAN BE DETERMINED ON LINE, SO THAT THE REQUIREMENTS OF AUTOMATIC EVALUATION PROCEDURES CAN BE FORMULATED. |
