摘要: ONE OF THE CONCLUSIONS FROM THE RESEARCH ON ROAD TRAFFIC NOISE PROTECTION (SEE IRRD RESEARCH PROJECT NUMBER 701565) WAS THAT AN EFFECTIVE REDUCTION OF ROAD TRAFFIC NOISE CAN ONLY BE BROUGHT ABOUT FROM THE SOURCE ITSELF, I.E. THE ROAD VEHICLE. DECREASING DRIVING NOISE IS NOT A TECHNICAL PROBLEM. THERE ARE DIFFICULTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE REDUCTION OF ROLLING NOISE WHICH CAN REACH A CONSIDERABLE LEVEL AT SPEEDS OF OVER 70 KM/H. WAYS OF REDUCING THE ROLLING NOISE MADE BY VEHICLES ARE BEING PROPOSED. IT IS PLANNED TO MAKE A SYSTEMATIC STUDY OF ALL TYRES AND CARRIAGEWAY TYPES IN ORDER TO FIND THE BEST WAY TO REDUCE ROLLING NOISE. THESE BASIC STUDIES ARE BEING CARRIED OUT FIRST WITH A TEST TRAILER IN ORDER TO EXCLUDE THE POSSIBLE INFLUENCE OF THE VEHICLE CHASSIS. THIS TEST SHOULD ENABLE PURE TYRE ROLLING NOISE TO BE DETERMINED UNDER VARIOUS CONDITIONS (SPEED, LOAD, TYRE AIR PRESSURE, TYRE SIZE, TREAD, TYPE OF CARRIAGEWAY). SIMILAR TESTS ARE THEN PLANNED WITH ACTUAL VEHICLES.
