THE RESEARCH IS TO EXAMINE THE POSSIBILITY OF DEVELOPING A SIMPLE, SELF-CONTAINED OPTIMISATION MODEL FOR CONTROLLING TRAFFIC STREAMS IN NETWORKS WHICH CAN BE USED ON-LINE WITH EXISTING COMPUTERS. USE OF SUCH A MODEL IS IMPORTANT IF A LARGE NUMBER OF POSSIBLE INFLUENCING FACTORS IS PRESENT. AN OBJECT FUNCTION WITH ITS INPUT MAGNITUDES IS TO BE DEFINED, AND THE BOUNDARY CONDITIONS FOR THE DIVIDING UP OF THE TRAFFIC STREAMS ARE TO BE ESTABLISHED. STARTING FROM AN EXISTING MODEL, WHICH HOWEVER IS VERY EXPENSIVE IN COMPUTER TIME, A SIMPLIFIED ALGORITHM IS TO BE DEVELOPED. FINALLY A CHECK IS TO BE MADE TO SEE WHETHER THIS ALGORITHM CAN BE USED IN PRACTICE IN ON-LINE OPERATIONS. |
