KEEPING TO SPECIFIED PARTICLE COMPOSITION IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT FOR THE QUALITY OF UNBOUND BASES. THESE MATERIALS HAVE TO BE EXACTLY PROPORTIONED, MIXED CENTRALLY AND SUFFICIENTLY DAMPENED. THE MIXING QUALITY OBTAINED BY THE CENTRAL MIXING CAN HOWEVER BE DECREASED BY A NUMBER OF FACTORS DURING FURTHER HANDLING BEFORE IT REACHES THE CONSTRUCTION SITE (SEGREGATION). THIS PROJECT IS TO EXAMINE THE EXTENT OF SEGREGATION WHICH OCCURS. FIRST A SUITABLE CRITERION FOR THE QUANTITATIVE DETERMINATION OF SEGREGATION HAS TO BE FOUND. THEN THE INDIVIDUAL STAGES IN THE PROCESSING SUCH AS MIXING, LOADING, TRANSPORT, UNLOADING AND LAYING HAVE TO BE STUDIED. THE EXTENT OF SEGREGATION IS TO BE ESTABLISHED IN RELATION TO MAXIMUM PARTICLE SIZE, MOISTURE CONTENT, TYPE OF STONE AND THE VARIOUS METHODS OF LAYING. |
