The National Survey of Speeding Attitudes and Behaviors collects information on the
prevalence of speeding among driving-age persons, the perception of speeding as a traffic safety problem, and driver awareness, experiences and attitudes towards speed-related behaviors, speed management, and driving laws. NHTSA and others use the data to track national trends in the speeding-driving problem and assess the impact of safety countermeasures to reduce speeding. This will be the fourth national survey on speeding attitudes and behaviors. Previous NHTSA surveys on speeding were conducted in 1997, 2002, and 2011. NHTSA intends to conduct this fourth iteration using address-based sampling, U.S. mail contact, with a method for random selection of a single (adult) respondent within households. The survey shall emphasize a Web-based administration but also offer the questionnaire through the U.S. mail. The survey shall have an English / Spanish option and over-sample for younger drivers and Spanish as a primary language. |
