Shipping today accounts for 90% of all freight transport. Forecasts of the world's transportation needs in 2050 show that it will double the current level. At the same time, shipping must become more energy-efficient and before 2050 reduce its contribution to emission of greenhouse gases to 40% of the levels 2005. In this project, through interdisciplinary research, we generate knowledge, methods and models that contribute to develop shipping as a transport-efficient mean of transportation which can achieve the 2050 targets with the requested transport needs and minimized fuel consumption. It integrates methods and models in transport logistics and economics with energy analysis in a unique model, ShipCLEAN. It is used in optimization of the marine transportation system to minimize fuel consumption. Technical solutions and changes in the transport of 4 vessels are presented in case studies with measurements and scenario-based analyses: RoPax, bulk/tanker, RoRo and container vessels. |
