摘要:
The aim of the project is to study how different assumptions in the Samgods model influence the ability of the model to study impacts of different policy measures on the exploitation of economies scale for sea transports, sea transport costs and the competition between the sea mode and the land modes. Case studies are performed in order to compare and validate i.e. the sea transport costs calculated in the Samgods model and other theoretical models with the transport costs in real cases. Specific questions are: How important are choice of shipment size, consolidation of shipments, choice of vessel size and use of economies of scale? How important are consolidation along the route (to call several ports during a trip) and loaded vessels on the return trips? How important is the vessels' speed? How important is the shipment frequency and the departure frequency of the vessels? How important is the choice of load units and containerization? What is the minimum distance for sea transports and which factors influence this distance? The emphasis is on the "underway costs" for sea transports, costs in ports and the complete transport chain from sender to receiver are treated more briefly. The project is expected to provide a better understanding of how the results derived from the Samgods model can be interpreted and to identify the factors that explain the most important differences between the Samgods-results and real world sea transports. The project contributes to a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the Samgods model, and increased understanding of how the model results should be interpreted. It will also suggest how to improve the Samgods-model when it comes to sea transports.
