Characterization of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement |
摘要: |
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Section 450 Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) Pavement specifications (November 1, 2010) limit the proportion of recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) to virgin aggregate for HMA base course mixtures and intermediate course mixtures to a maximum of 40 percent for drum mix plants and 20 percent for modified batch plants. The Section 450 specifications also allow contractors to use a maximum of 15% RAP in HMA surface course mixtures. Recently, due to increased prices for asphalt mixture materials, there has been an interest to increase RAP contents in HMA and warm mix asphalt (WMA) mixtures. This is due to the fact that RAP contains aged asphalt binder and aggregates which can replace a portion of the virgin materials required to produce new HMA or WMA mixtures. In order to determine the maximum amount of RAP that can be added to mixtures placed as the top layer in Massachusetts, this research is being undertaken to evaluate RAP and virgin binders being utilized in Massachusetts. |
